Run & Swim in Cornwall
February 13. 2022
Having moved to Cornwall in 2017 I wondered what sort of running terrain I would encounter as I explored what the County had to offer and in particular the area in which we live. I had yet to realise that I would no longer need to drag myself out of bed, pounding the pavements to satisfy my morning welcome to the world and with gratitude that I am still able to feel the sensation of moving forward faster than walking pace. Cornwall brought a new experience to my morning run, I was motivated, springing out of bed, captivated by the scenery, the freedom of feeling like I'm flying with the wind at my tail, and truly grateful that I can spend time in the magnificent and ever changing scenery the County has to offer. 10 min drive takes me to any of the below coastal trails:-
Park at Porthcothan - Run x 2 miles to Treyarnon on the Coastal path (that's taking the right hand side if your looking to the sea) with a turn using the headland to turn back on yourself provides a lovely 4.2 miler. The start is fairly steep uphill from Porthcothan for about 1/2 mile to the kissing gate. I keep the outside path more scenic. The route the fence with the view over Treyarnon bay is undulaing with some steps and short hills to climb on route. Lovely one to start the day well. Scenery amazing.
Park at Treyarnon (holiday camp car parking) and run towards Constantine and around Trevose head in a circular route back to Treyarnon. This is a fairly flat just over 4 miles with a stretch of beach and a climb to Trevose head. I usually cut through via the path to the National Trust Car park and onwards towards Mother's Ivy before turning left to Trevose bay and views of the lighthouse. But you can cover the loop in either direction retracing your steps from Booby's bay back to Treyarnon. When the waves are right there are surfers and kite surfers in the water. As when the tides are right the rods from the hopeful fishermen and woman at Booby's and seals usually spotted off Trevose head/Mother's Ivy direction. Love this one!
